We are so grateful for this incredible team and are so inspired by everyone’s commitment and determination to help advance Alzheimer’s research and find a cure for future generations. If you need anything at all this weekend, please call/text Ali Luthman at 774 262 0314 or Ally Hickey at 339 225 5227.

Annual Report on the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund

Click here to read (and share with your networks) this year’s report. The report provides a message from Dr. Sperling and video updates detailing the research of Dr. Tracy Young-Pearse and Dr. Rachel Buckley, who will be with us this weekend. Their innovative work, made possible in great part to the Marr Fund, offers new possibilities for detecting and treating Alzheimer’s at earlier stages before symptoms appear. Thank you so much for your dedication to making a difference for future generations!

Don’t forget: The fundraising commitment deadline is tomorrow (10/1) at 6AM. If you have not reached your commitment by this time, the credit card on file will be charged the difference to get you to your commitment. Please alert us if you have incoming matching gifts, cash and/or checks that will get you to your fundraising commitment.

We also can’t wait to celebrate as a team at the post-race party! Details are as follows:

  • When: Sunday, 10/1, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Where: Home of John Marr Sr., 6 Mariner Lane, Falmouth, ME

Transportation on Race Day

The Marr Team asks all relay teams to take advantage of the free bus service to each relay exchange zone & back. This reduces congestion on roads near the race route, avoids road closures, the need to find parking, and it’s one less thing to deal with on race day! Buses will leave the intersection of Bedford and Durham Streets (halfway between the USM garage and the starting line) starting at 7:15 a.m., to transport runners to Depot Street in Falmouth – a short walk from the first and third exchange zones. Another bus will transport runners from Falmouth to the second exchange in Yarmouth, and back to Falmouth afterward. NOTE: Only runners with race bibs will be allowed onto shuttle buses.

Once the race is in progress, Maine Marathon race organizers expect to have buses leaving Falmouth for Portland approximately every 30 minutes, and a bus going from Falmouth to Yarmouth approximately every 45 minutes (return trips from Yarmouth would also leave every 45 minutes, approximately). Please note that they don’t have plans for direct service from Portland to Yarmouth and back, which means you’ll need to switch buses in Falmouth. The first bus from Falmouth to Yarmouth is scheduled to leave at 8:15 a.m.

Directions to relay sites / Carpooling / Parking

If you do not choose to use the shuttle service, it is the responsibility of each team to arrange transportation to and from each relay exchange point. Please take note of road closures when planning your arrival and departure to and from exchange points, and please use extreme caution if you must travel on roads that are part of or near the race course, especially Route 88. If not taking the shuttle, carpooling is strongly recommended to ease traffic congestion, ensure adequate parking for racers and volunteers at designated sites, and in keeping with the event’s ‘green’ theme. Please, no parking anywhere along the race route.

For relay exchanges #1 and #3 (both at the junction of Route 88 and Depot Road near Skillins Nursery) we suggest parking at Sullivan Tire, off Route 1 in Falmouth, behind Rite Aid and Shaw’s and then walking to the Marr Team Tent at Skillins. Note that Depot Road from Route 1 to Route 88 is closed 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For relay exchange #2, parking is available at Cunningham Security Systems, on Route 88 in Yarmouth, just beyond the junction with Gilman Road.

Please do not attempt to reach Relay Exchanges #1 and #3 by taking Route 88, which is closed from Route 1 to Johnson Road. The Falmouth Police have asked us to emphasize this with the relay runners. Thank you for observing this road closure.

For individuals who need help with getting to/from, please contact George Psyhogeos (617 939 7121) or Dan Downey (207 252 7585) who will make sure no one is left stranded!

From start to finish,

Ali, Ally and Caroline
